Lake Buhi : Hometown Province
Aug 29, 2013
Lake Buhi is found in the town of Buhi, Camarines Sur. A province located in the Bicol Region,Luzon. It lays in the valley formed by two ancient volcanoes namely Mount Asog ( known as Mount Iriga ) and Mount Malinao. This formation was created in 1641, when an earthquake caused a side of Mount Asog to collapse. This resulting landslide created a natural dam that blocked the flow of nearby streams. Another theory suggests that it was created by the eruption of Mount Asog which is now a dormant volcano.
Lake Buhi is where you can find the world’s smallest edible fish, known as Sinarapan (Mistichthys luzonensis). Fishery, Water Irrigation, Hydroelectronic power and domestic water supply are means for Buhinons. It’s green, lush, mountain ranges, silvery waters and serene lake become charming and pleasing.
Aside from my father’s hometown, I always see to it, that I visited the town, not just for family and relatives, but also to relax after a stressful days in the Metro. Let me share you some of the things that you might do.
Travel by Lantsa
« Lantsa » , word by the locals, a big boat. By this, you can go to other area in the nearby lake. Crossing to the Lake is simply. This is the Lantsa, going to Barangay Sta Cruz. Experience to ride, go up and seat at top of it, see view while sailing. It will cost P10 for each.
Time for Fishing.
Fishing is one of the livelihood here. Then why not try!. Ayungin(Leiopotherapon_plumbeus) and Tilapia are the fish will surely catch your hook. One of the best Tilapia, I ever ate. Just be patient, what u catched will reward you after.
Relaxing at Floating House.
There are some floating houses, that can be rent. Some locals allowed it. Bring your own food, water. Stay and relax. Only silence of lake will be your music. The surrounding forest of the Lake has many birds, approximately 25 bird species. Philippine_Hanging_Parrot, White-eared_Brown_Dove, Black-naped_Monarch, are some of it.
Row your Boat.
For new challenge. Let you and your friends have a game. It’s like Kayaking but unfortunately, there is no kayak available. Instead, a local boat. You will enjoy it.
Meet the Locals.
Barangay Sta Cruz is one of the nearby barangay, approximately ten minutes from the pier. Down the hill, there is a huge ricefields owned by the locals. Got lucky, if it’s time for harvesting. Greens, golden and yellow are hues that will surely you enjoy, thinking you cannot experience in Metro. Be with them, while doing harvesting, was a great experienced, as I feel, I’m one of those farmers. Learning how rice produce and how it was before turned into the marketplace. And ask them about the Lake, how it happen or how it began. They make sure you’ll enjoy as simply life just for a day.
Trek to Itbog "twin "Falls
From Sta. Cruz, there is a hidden Falls called Itbog twin Falls. With it’s two identical cascading waterfalls. A thirty to fourty five minutes trekking. A cold water comes from sixty foot tall. Locals said, do not make noise while in there. It is guarded by the Fairy, an donce they got angry, all area will be rain.
I dearly love watching the evanescent beauty of sunset. Here’s I got as I stayed at the Lake.
There are still await to do in the Lake. Do not hesitate to ask the locals, and they are willing give you more information. Renting a boat is very good for you discover the Lake itself and nearby area.
