Kaamulan Festival 2014: The Centenary Celebration
In the past, Kaamulan has always been celebrated every second week of February except for this year. The provincial government moved the celebration of Kaamulan to August to commemorate its 100th centenary celebration. Making it bigger and merrier! It was participated by 20 municipalities and 2 cities, Valencia City and Malaybalay City.
Kaamulan comes from the binukid word “amul” which means to gather. It’s a gathering of the seven tribes who inhabit the province of Bukidnon namely, Matigsalug, Ilianon, Pulangihon, Umayamnon,Talaandig, Tigwa Manobo, Western Bukidnon Manobo, and Higaunon. They come together to showcase the richness of their culture and tradition in a form of dance, rituals, and songs. One of the highlights of the festival is the street dancing competition. It was held along Fortich Street to the capitol ground for their dance showdown. Dances were exhibit authentically with exciting story lines.
